For those who dream of a pristine Italy, full of nature and kosher local cuisine
Day 1: Rome to Tuscan Farmhouse (MIA Departure)
Depart Miami (MIA) on May 16th for an overnight flight to Rome (FCO), arriving the morning of May 17th. Drive north, stopping mid-day to visit the stunning hilltop city of Orvieto. Explore its Cathedral, enjoy a picnic with a view, then continue through the Grafeniana Reserve (passing “Devil’s Bridge”) to your Tuscan farmhouse near Barga, your base for the trip.
Day 2: Apennines Hiking and Medieval History
Begin at Hospitale di San Pellegrino for a spectacular hike up to a dramatic viewpoint on the main ridge. On the return, visit the medieval fortified town of Castiglione di Garfagnana, notable for its history in the Lucca-Florence conflict. Conclude the day at an important scenic and historical viewpoint.
Day 3: Apuan Alps & Grotta del Vento
Dedicated to the spectacular Apuan Alps. The morning includes a hike along ridges with breathtaking views, observing old bunkers and trenches. In the afternoon, explore Grotta del Vento (Wind Cave), one of Europe’s most complete karst caves, located in the Apuan Alps Natural Park.
Day 4: Lucca & Tuscan Cooking Class
Spend the morning in the walled city of Lucca. Walk the intact city walls, wander the ancient alleys, and enjoy a coffee break. In the afternoon, drive to Fattoria di Fubbiano for an engaging Tuscan cooking class. The day concludes with a dinner of the dishes you prepared, paired with Kosher Tuscan wines.
Day 5: Campocatino and Craft Beer
Travel to the magnificent valley of Campocatino. Hike through the forest to the picturesque Eremo di San Viviano (a hermitage built into a cliff cave). Stop for a picnic on the shores of Lake Gramolazzo. The day ends with a visit to a local family brewery crafting beers with local, organic ingredients like spelt and chestnuts.
Day 6: Shabbat in Legianu
Day 7: Lima Valley Legends and Departure
Hike through the rural Lima Valley in the morning, passing ancient churches and forests rich with local myths. After a final picnic, begin the journey south toward Rome. If time permits, we will make an optional stop in the magical town of Tarquinia. Depart on the late-night flight back home from Rome Fiumicino (FCO). Shape
